Nigeria coach Justin Madugu has lamented the Super Falcon’s inability to score more goals at the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations as they prepare to take on Zambia in the quarter-finals of the showpiece this week.

The Super Falcons have scored just four goals in their last three matches as they topped Group B following their 0-0 stalemate against Algeria last Sunday.

Reflecting on their upcoming quarter-final, Madugu believes that his side are silently aware of the challenges Zambia will present at Stade Larbi Zaouli.

“We know some of their players. We’ll see. Go back and continue our analysis of the team, their strengths, and their weaknesses, just as we know they will equally be doing,” Madugu said.

“So it’s not anything of concern for us because, like I said, for you to win the tournament, you must win all your matches. And so that is what we are going into. There is no room for errors.

“Prior to this tournament, we’ve been playing matches, and a lot of them [players] have been scoring goals. In this tournament, scoring has become a challenge for us. We have to really go back and do a lot,” Madugu added, regarding their lack of goals at the WAFCON.

Nora Hauptle and her charges placed second in Group A after a tense 1-0 win against DR Congo on Saturday night, as Racheal Kundananji scored the only goal of the game at Stade El Bachir.

With the Nigeria clash coming up, Hauptle expressed that Zambia will be ready for any team during the knockout round as they intend on going all the way in the competition.

“We are in a comfortable position with five rest days now. It’s a chance to recover, refresh and observe closely,” Hauptle said.

“Whoever we face, we will be ready. If you want to reach the final and win this tournament, you need to beat everyone. So we will take whoever comes.”
