Roberto Martinez, the Belgium head coach, was satisfied with his charges' performance against Portugal and he provided an update on the injured duo of Kevin De Bruyne and Eden Hazard.

"The way Portugal pushed for victory until the end, this gives me incredible satisfaction," Martinez said.

“This is what a winning team needs. We know the talent we have but all the other elements you need were shown today. For us it was the biggest test there is.

“We are going to need 48 hours to find out the extent of the injuries. We will go back to Belgium and make the scans tomorrow."

Therefore, the Blues set a new national record, extending their unbeaten run to 31 games across all competitions having recorded five draws and 26 wins.

The last meeting between Belgium and Italy was on 13 June 2016.

Italy proved too strong as they brushed aside Belgium 2-0 in the UEFA EURO 2016 match that was played at the Groupama Stadium in Décines-Charpieu, France.
