Suzuki rider Joan Mir will be keen to record his maiden win of the season at the Catalan MotoGP on June 6.

The Spanish star remains winless in his MotoGP world title defence season having finished third in the recent Italian MotoGP on May 30.

It was Mir's joint best finish in the current campaign having also finished third at the Portuguese MotoGP two months ago.

The Italian MotoGP was won by Yamaha's Fabio Quartararo and he was followed by KTM rider Miguel Oliviera, who secured a second-place finish.

Quartararo is still sitting at the top of the 2021 riders' standings with 13 races left in the current campaign.

The Ducati duo of Johann Zarco and Francesco Bagnaia are placed second and third respectively heading into the Catalan MotoGP.

Mir is now placed fifth and he will move into the top three positions if he claims a victory in this weekend's race.

The 23-year-old was satisfied with his performance in Italy and he indicated that there are better tracks coming as he prepares for the Catalan MotoGP.

"I’m really satisfied about the job that we did. The team works really well, I was able to make a weekend from less to more and to find step-by-step the good pace and the good feelings with the bike," said Mir.

"Here, the goal is always the podium, but we know that here and these first tracks for us would be difficult. At the end we have two podiums at the moment and now there are better tracks coming for us, so we’re quite optimistic.

"I think we will be stronger and stronger and hopefully to always be here."

Yamaha are placed at the top of Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Ducati and Suzuki respectively.
