Annika Sorenstam will be hoping to become the first woman to win the Scandinavian Mixed a few months after coming out of retirement.

The Swedish golf legend is regarded as one of the best female golfers in history and she is a former number one in the Women's World Golf Rankings.

Sorenstam won 90 international tournaments as a professional, making her the female golfer with the most wins to her name.

The Stockholm-born golfer has also won 72 official LPGA tournaments including ten majors and 18 other tournaments internationally.

After 13 years away from professional golf, Sorenstam made the cut in February 2021 at her first competitive outing at the Gainbridge LPGA at Lake Nona Golf and Country Club in the USA.

The 50-year-old will now return to action in Sweden this week following her last appearance on home soil at the 2008 Scandinavian TPC in Stockholm.

Sorenstam has decided to join the field of 78 men and 78 women on the field at the Vallda Golf & Country Club.

When asked about her thoughts on returning to professional golf, she said: “I’m excited to tee it up at the Scandinavian Mixed and to be back playing competitively in my home country of Sweden for the first time in 13 years.

“Since retiring in 2008 I have dedicated a lot of my time to the ANNIKA Foundation, which hosts seven global events for junior girls each year including the ANNIKA Invitational Europe which will be at Isaberg Golf Club in Sweden following this year’s tournament.

"So I felt like it was a perfect opportunity to actually play in this historic event bringing women and men together in a combined professional tournament."

Lee Westwood and Colin Montgomerie are the most decorated players in the history of the Scandinavian Masters having won three titles each
