The Ferrari driver narrowly missed out on the podium at last year's Azerbaijan Grand Prix as he finished fourth having accumulated 12 points.

Leclerc also missed out on a podium finish in the most recent in the current season which was the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix - finishing fourth on May 29.

The race was won by Red Bull Racing-RBPT's Sergio Perez, while Sainz Jr and Max Verstappen of Red Bull finished second and third respectively.

Verstappen is placed at the top of the 2022 Drivers' Championship standings and his teammate Perez is placed third as Red Bull continues to enjoy a successful season.

“It was a freaking disaster today,” said Leclerc, who had pulled a 5s lead over Sainz in the early stages of the Monaco Grand Prix race.

“The win was clearly in our hands: we had the performance, we had everything. I just don’t really understand the call that I had and I need explanations for now.

“I couldn’t do much, I was called just before the last corner, so I couldn’t react or ask for any information, but that was clearly the wrong choice… We need to get better.”

Red Bull Racing-RBPT are placed at the top of the Constructors' Championship standings and they are followed by Ferrari and Mercedes respectively.
