Mozambique will square off with Rwanda in the 2023
Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier at the FNB Stadium on June 2.
The Mambas secured a 1-0 win over Malawi at home in their last competitive match which was the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier on 16 November 2021.
The win ended Mozambique's five-match winless run in competitive matches having recorded four consecutive defeats and one draw.
The Southern African side is winless in their last two matches at home in the AFCON qualifiers having recorded two successive defeats.
Meanwhile, Rwanda succumbed to a 2-1 loss to Kenya in their last competitive game which was the 2022 World Cup qualifier game on 15 November 2021.
Therefore, Amavumbi are winless in their last six competitive matches having registered one draw and five defeats.
The Eastern African side has also failed to win their last eight away matches during the AFCON qualifiers having registered three draws and five defeats on the road.
Carlos Alos Ferrer, the Rwanda head coach, has said that his players are in good shape ahead of the clash against Mozambique.
"I am happy with the players I have, they are giving it 100% in training and I was motivated by their commitment – on and off the field. We are really happy as a group,” Alos said in New Times.
"My job is to prepare players for the game, they do the execution,” he noted. “We will, obviously, give it all we got."
The last meeting between Mozambique and Rwanda was on 24 March 2021.
Amavumbi claimed a 1-0 win over the Mambas in the 2021 AFCON qualifier which was played at the Stade Régional de Nyamirambo in Rwanda.
