No. 1 seed Carlos Alcaraz will be targeting his sixth final appearance of 2023 when he faces Novak Djokovic in the
French Open semi-finals on Friday, June 9.
The Spaniard already has four titles to his name this year since returning to action from a hamstring injury that forced him to miss the Australian Open in January.
Alcaraz has been in fine form on the Paris clay, dropping just one set on his way to setting up a second-ever meeting with Djokovic, whom he beat 7-6, 7-5, 7-6 in the Madrid Open semi-finals last year.
The world No. 1 surpassed his previous best showing at Roland Garros when he eliminated No. 5 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas in the quarter-finals, winning 6-2, 6-1, 7-6.
Alcaraz made it to the last eight for the first time in 2022 before being sent packing by Alexander Zverev in four sets, having fallen in the third round the previous year.
The 20-year-old, who won the 2022 US Open, is looking to reach the second Grand Slam final of his budding career and relishes another opportunity to lock horns with one of the legends in the game.
"Since last year I really wanted to play again against Novak," he said. "You know, we both are playing a great level... so I'm really looking for that match. I'm going to enjoy it.
"For me, it's amazing to make history, playing a semi-final with such a legend like Novak. So it's going to be a great match for me."
