Matt Fitzpatrick will be eager to become the first English golfer to win back-to-back US Open as he successfully retains the title.

What to know about Fitzpatrick

After winning the 2013 US Amateur, the Sheffield-born star later clinched his first professional tournament at the 2015 British Masters.

Fitzpatrick won his first major championship at the US Open in 2022, before clinching the 2023 RBC Heritage at Harbour Town Golf Links, his second PGA Tour victory.

Latest News

The 28-year-old, who won the 2013 Mark H. McCormack Medal, was in action at the recent 2023 RBC Canadian Open where he finished in the top 20 - finishing 20th.

Fitzpatrick is in the top 10 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) - placed eighth coming into the US Open where he is among the favourites to win it.

Why Fitzpatrick is one of the favourites

The Florida-based golfer won last year's US Open with a one-shot victory at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts – the same venue where he won the US Amateur in 2013.

Fitzpatrick tends to perform well in events organised by the United States Golf Association (USGA) having clinched the US Amateur and US Open trophies, and he will be eager to clinch his third title this year.

Quotes

"I feel like the start of the year, I had a good obviously first event in Hawaii and then got injured," Fitzpatrick said ahead of his defence of the US Open title.

"and that kind of felt like it set me back quite a bit for February and March. I ended up obviously playing well in April. "I feel like my game is kind of getting in the right place. I certainly felt like Memorial and last week I was playing some good golf.

"I didn't necessarily score too well last week, but again, I had a slight flare-up on a Friday afternoon with my neck. "I definitely feel like my game is in better shape. I certainly don't think it's as good as it was last year."
