2022/23 Italian Serie A

Matchday 28

AC Monza v SS Lazio

U-Power Stadium
Monza, Italy
Sunday, 2 April 2023
Kick-off is at 14h00

AC Monza will battle it out with SS Lazio in an Italian Serie A match at the U-Power Stadium on April 2.

Current Form

The White and Reds were held to a 1-1 draw by US Cremonese at home on March 18 and they are now undefeated in three matches in the league.

Monza are also undefeated in their last two matches at home having recorded one draw and one victory at the U-Power Stadium.

On the other hand, Lazio claimed a slender 1-0 win over AS Roma at home on March 19 and the win extended their unbeaten run to five games in the Serie A.

The Eagles are also undefeated in their last five matches on the road having recorded two draws and three wins as the visitors.

What Is At Stake

Monza find themselves placed 13th on the league standings as they are looking to climb back into the top 10.

A victory over Lazio would see the White and Reds move up to the 10th spot if other results go their way, but they will be up against an in-form Eagles side.

Currently placed second on the league table, Lazio will consolidate their spot if they defeat Monza with 12 matches left.

Team News

Marlon is currently out injured while his Monza teammates Armando Izzo and Matteo Pessina will miss the game against Lazio due to suspension.

On the other hand, Lazio's Adam Marusic will also be missing due to suspension, but the Rome-based side is yet to report any injuries.

Key Players

Carlos Augusto is Monza's key forward having scored more goals than any other White and Reds player in the Serie A this season having netted five times.

Monza will be wary of Ciro Immobile who remains one of the best strikers in Italy with the Lazio hitman having scored nine times in the league this season.

Quotes

“The most important thing about today is the win and having made our fans happy. That was our objective from the start,” Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri said after their win over Roma.

“We’d prepared the match by focusing on their fullbacks and pressing them high up, keeping them wider on the flanks. It wasn’t a brilliant game from a technical point of view. But in the end it was a nice game to follow. This is one of the most heartfelt derbies in the world.

"I played some in London but there is certainly not the emotional participation that there is for this derby. It is not a normal match. It hadn’t been for days: our focus had been on tonight all along, that’s why we lost the previous two matches.”

Head-to-Head

Lazio secured a 1-0 win over Monza in their last meeting in the league which was on 10 November 2022 at the Stadio Olimpico.

It was their first-ever Serie A meeting.
