Matchday 26

SSC Napoli v Atalanta BC

Stadio Diego Armando Maradona
Napoli, Italy
Saturday, 11 March 2023
Kick-off is at 19h00

SSC Napoli will battle it out with Atalanta BC in an Italian Serie A match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona on March 11.

Current Form

The Little Donkey succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to SS Lazio at home on March 3 as their eight-match unbeaten run in the league came to an end.

The defeat to Lazio also ended Napoli's 14-match unbeaten run at home having recorded two draws and 12 wins at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

While Atalanta drew 0-0 with Udinese at home on March 4 as they extended their winless run to three matches in Serie A.

The Goddrness have lost two of their last three matches on the road, while the other game ended in a win away to Lazio on February 11.

What Is At Stake

Despite the defeat to Lazio, Napoli are still sitting pretty at the top of the league standings - 15 points clear of second-placed Inter Milan.

Luciano Spalletti's side will be desperate to return to winning ways when they face Atalanta in order to get their bid to win the league title back on track.

Atalanta are placed sixth on the league standings and a win over Napoli would see the Goddess boost their ambitions of securing a top four finish this season.

Team News

Giacomo Raspadori is still out injured, while his Napoli teammate Mario Rui will be serving his suspension against Atalanta.

Hans Hateboer, Duván Zapata, Giorgio Scalvini, Teun Koopmeiners, Davide Zappacosta and José Luis Palomino are all part of Atalanta's injury list, but the club has no suspension concerns.

Key Players

Having been contained by the Lazio defence, Victor Osimhen will be determined to regain his scoring touch against Atalanta and inspire Napoli to a win.

Osimhen will be up against his Nigerian compatriot Ademola Lookman who is Atalanta's top scorer in Serie A and he has what it takes to propel the Goddess to a win over the Little Donkeys.

Quotes

“We tried to do the same things with more quality, because the options were there to release Lobotka and create chances," Spalletti said after Napoli lost to Lazio.

"Even if we did it better in the second half, the quality was still not good enough. When Lazio pulled their wide strikers back, we had the chance to get around their defence, but again lacked quality in our passing.

“This is how I expected Lazio to play, they often remain in a block to defend, but we made the worst choices of the season. On the positive side, I saw hunger, determination and humility from my players, I saw no arrogance or presumption."

Head-to-Head

Napoli edged out Atalanta 2-1 in their last meeting in the league which was on 5 November 2022 at the Gewiss Stadium.

As a result, the Little Donkeys are undefeated in their last two matches against Goddess in the Serie A having recorded two successive wins.
