Quotes

"We started well, we had a good first half," Atletico manager Diego Simeone said after his side's defeat to Barcelona.

"With [Pablo] Barrios' goal that could have been a goal, [Alvaro] Morata's goal, [Jan] Oblak took Fermin [Lopez]'s goal in the first of them, until Joao [Felix]'s goal. The second goal took us directly out of the game and they forcefully took advantage of their situations.

"Congratulations to them, they were better. We had started with a good rhythm, we were organized, but they were forceful. The second goal hurt us a lot and took away our energy to continue competing."

Head-to-Head

Atletico secured a 3-1 win over Villarreal in their last meeting in La Liga in a match played at the Estádio Cívitas Metropolitano on 12 November 2023.

As a result, the Mattress Makers are unbeaten in their last two matches in the league against the Yellow Submarine having registered one draw and one win.
