The two-time Roland Garros winner, who won this tournament in 2016 and 2021, indicated that everything is going in the right direction after defeating Molcan.

"Well, so far so good. I'm pleased with the way I'm feeling on the court, the way I have been striking the ball," Djokovic said.

"I think also today was under this kind of challenging conditions and playing against a specialist on clay, someone that is a tricky opponent.

"It was never going to be an easy match, but I thought I performed very well. Everything is going in the right direction. I'm looking forward to the next challenge."

Meanwhile, Bedene booked his place in this stage after defeating Uruguayan star Pablo Cuevas 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5), 6-4 in a second-round clash on Wednesday.

The Slovenian star had booked his spot in the second round after overcoming Christopher Connell of Australia in the first round encounter on Monday.

Bedene has won five Futures and 14 Challenger singles titles and he is currently ranked 195th on the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings.

Djokovic and Bedene will meet for the fourth time in an ATP event.

Djokovic boasts of an unbeaten record against Bedene having won their previous three meetings.

The world number one defeated Bedene 7-6(2), 6-2 in the 2017 Italian Open second-round clash which remains their last meeting.
