World No. 2 Daniil Medvedev will be looking to build on an impressive opening five months of 2023 when the
French Open gets underway on Sunday, May 28.
The Russian has lost just five of his 44 matches this year, with five titles already under his belt ahead of the second Grand Slam of the season.
Medvedev comes into the French Open on the back of a successful Italian Open, where he defeated world No. 6 Holger Rune 7-5, 7-5 in the final on May 21.
The 27-year-old has had the best of times on the Paris clay, failing to progress beyond the first round for four years running (2017-2020) before reaching the quarter-finals in 2021.
Medvedev bowed out in the fourth round last year after losing to Marin Cilic in straight sets and he'll be hoping for an improved performance at Roland Garros this time around to put pressure on World No. 1 Carlos Alcaraz.
He is seeded second for the French Open thanks to his triumph at the Italian Open, placing him on the opposite half to Alcaraz in the draw.
"If I would be No. 3, I would definitely play one of Alcaraz or Novak [Djokovic] if I am in the semi-finals. You definitely have one of them in your draw," Medvedev said.
"I guess it's better to be No. 2 and get the chance. Carlos and I [will not] play for sure before the final, and Novak maybe 50 per cent chance he's not in your draw. At the same time, I haven't been further than the quarters in Roland-Garros."
