Sam Burns will be looking to become the second golfer to win back-to-back Charles Schwab Challenge titles after Ben Hogan.

What to know about Burns

The American star has won six professional tournaments since he turned professional in October 2017 as he debuted in the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Burns, who was named AJGA Rolex Junior Player of the Year in 2014, has won five PGA Tour events including two Valspar Championship titles.

Latest News

The 26-year-old missed the cut at the recent 2023 PGA Championship and prior to that, he had also missed the cut at the Wells Fargo Championship.

However, Burns is still in the top 15 on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) as he is placed 14th coming into the Charles Schwab Challenge.

Why Burns is one of the favourites

The Louisiana-born star won the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge after making a 38-foot birdie putt in a playoff against Scottie Scheffler.

Burns overcame a seven-stroke deficit to win, matching Nick Price in 1994 for largest comeback in a final round to win at Colonial Country Club.

Having won the 2023 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play in March, Burns will be eager to record his second win of the 2022-23 PGA Tour season in Texas.

Quotes

“I can assure you, he [Scheffler] wanted to beat me more than anybody else and I wanted to beat him more than anybody else,” Burns said after winning the Charles Schwab Challenge.

“It’s going to be a fun story that we’ll get to have for the rest of our careers, and fortunately I got the better end of it this time. But hopefully, we’re at the beginning of these situations.

“I can assure you I did not envy them while they were out there playing. Didn’t feel like it was blowing any less than we were out there, it was just one of those things when you finally finish, you’re just ready to be done.”
