Justin Thomas will be keen to defend the PGA Championship title and go level with Tiger Woods in terms of trophies (three) won in this event.

What to know about Thomas

The American star finds himself placed 13th on the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) and he is a former world number one.

Thomas has won 17 professional tournaments including 15 PGA Tour events and two PGA Championship titles.

News

The man nicknamed JT has been out of action since he took part in the Wells Fargo Championship on May 7.

JT finished 14th as Wyndham Clark won the tournament - clinching the trophy after he beat Xander Schauffele by four shots.

Why Thomas is among the favourites

The three-time PGA Tour leading money winner knows what it takes to win the PGA Championship having won the event in 2017 and 2018.

JT will be motivated as he looks to become just the third golfer in the stroke-play era to go back-to-back at the PGA Championship.

Quotes

“I'm starting to see a little bit of a light at the end of the tunnel,” Thomas said on PGA Championship's official website ahead of this year's event.

“Like anything in your golf game, you've got to practice it. I felt like I had a good week practicing it, tried to get a little bit more accustomed to it, a little bit more fluid, and just making it easier routine-wise.”

“The biggest thing for me was honestly just getting it out of my system Saturday before I left the golf course," he continued.

"And I think that was something [caddie Jim ‘Bones’ Mackay] did a great job with. It was more just like I couldn't leave the property or the golf course in that frame of mind. It's not healthy.

“That's kind of when Bones told me, ‘We're doing a lot of great things, playing some really good golf, and you're still a great player. Let's not let one round change that.’ Yeah, it worked out well.”
