Carlo Ancelotti will be looking to keep his unbeaten record against Sevilla intact when he faces them for the last time as Real Madrid head coach at the Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan on Sunday, May 18.
The Italian, who is set to bring an end to his second spell at the Bernabeu later this month, has yet to lose to the Palanganas since returning to the helm in June 2021.
In fact, Los Blancos haven't been defeated by the Andalusian outfit in almost seven years, with their last loss (3-0) coming in the corresponding fixture on 26 September 2018.
The defending
La Liga champions ran out convincing 4-2 victors in their most recent encounter on December 22, making it eight wins from their last 10 meetings.
Ancelotti's side saw their hopes of a successive title defence dashed after losing 4-3 to Barcelona in the El Clasico derby on May 11, which left them seven points adrift of the league leaders in second place.
Sevilla have endured a disappointing campaign, winning just nine games, and they're not mathematically safe yet after going down 3-2 to Celta Vigo on May 10.
It extended their winless run to eight outings and has seen Joaquin Caparros' side slide down the table to 16th position.
Caparros admits the dressing room was sullen after the loss in Vigo and his players are in desperate need of a confidence boost to avoid getting sucked into the relegation zone.
"It was a disappointment in Vigo, we were going to break the streak, but it was not possible despite the fact that the game was set up for us to win," the Spaniard said.
"The team is hurting emotionally in that respect... We have to give them confidence. They are the ones who are going to play and we have to give them confidence and reassurance."
Ancelotti has agreed to become Brazil's next manager, but he is focusing on finishing his tenure with Real strongly.
"I will be the coach of Brazil, which is a challenge, but until then, I'm the coach of Real Madrid and I want to finish in the best possible way," the Italian said.
"I'm focused on the final stretch of this spectacular adventure... I've had a fantastic time here and I want to continue like this for the last two weeks I have left here."
