Matchday 15

Chelsea v Arsenal

Stamford Bridge

Arsenal will attempt to maintain their grip on top spot in the Premier League when they make the short trip to Stamford Bridge for a London derby against Chelsea on Sunday, November 6.

The Gunners have held off the challenge of Manchester City thus far to remain two points clear at the summit after 12 matches.

Mikel Arteta's side saw the Citizens move into pole position for the third time in four games last Saturday, but gave the perfect response as they thumped Nottingham Forest 5-0 the following day to reclaim the lead in the standings.

Arteta was pleased with the reaction from his players after Thursday's 2-0 loss to PSV Eindhoven in the Europa League, which followed on from the 1-1 draw with Southampton the previous weekend.

"Big teams have to respond as quick as possible and we did that after the disappointment of Thursday night," the Spaniard said.

"You don't have time, you go here Friday evening. One half training session and be ready not only physically but mentally again to another demand against a team that beat Liverpool and the pressure is on.

"You lose the first place and you are there. And we need to get used to that."

The Blues suffered their first defeat under Graham Potter, whose return to former club Brighton ended in disappointment after the Seagulls ran out 4-1 victors last weekend.

Potter had gone unbeaten in his first five league games at the helm, although his team lost more ground in the title race following two successive draws prior to their trip to the south coast.

The Englishman has shouldered the blame for the shock result at the Amex and insists he will dissect the performance against Albion to find out what went wrong.

"Brighton are a good side, I know that. With the crowd and the atmosphere they created, they put us under pressure," Potter acknowledged. "We made a couple of unforced errors to start it off a bit but that can happen.

"I am not going to throw the players under the bus at all, they have been brilliant and given everything to me, but I have to take responsibility and find a way for us to do better.

"When you lose you have to look at it and if you have made a mistake, you must analyse it. That is part of our job, part of the process, and if we got that wrong I have to take responsibility for that and we have to do better."
