Croatia will be looking to maintain their unbeaten record in Group L when they welcome Faroe Islands to the Stadion Rujevica for a
2026 World Cup qualifier on Friday, November 14.
The Blazers lead the charge for automatic qualification to the global showpiece after picking 16 points from their opening six matches.
Zlatko Dalic's side saw their perfect start to qualifying come to an end with a 0-0 draw against Czech Republic on October 9, but they pulled three points clear after beating Gibraltar 3-0 three days later.
The Czechs missed out on the chance to stay level with Croatia when they suffered a surprise 2-1 defeat against the Atlantic Ocean islanders on October 12 to remain in second place, having played one game more.
Faroe Islands can still qualify for the playoffs, but they need to cause an upset of note in Rijeka and then hope that Czech Republic slip up against Gibraltar in their final fixture on November 17.
Eydun Klakstein's side trail the Blazers by four points in third spot and they can take heart from their last meeting in Torshavn on September 5 when Andrej Kramaric's 31st-minute goal settled the contest.
Dalic isn't about to underestimate the opposition again with qualification on the line after being surprised by their quality in the first-ever encounter between the two teams.
"We didn't expect them to be this good, we thought they were an outsider who had no business in this group, but their performances proved us wrong," Dalic was quoted as saying on the official HNS website.
"When I saw the pitch and the conditions there, I immediately said that it would be difficult to get points there. They are competitive and good, but in the end we have to be happy with the three points we took in the Faroe Islands.
"They are not an opponent to be underestimated and we have to confirm our place in the World Cup."
