California rivals the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers will renew hostilities when they meet in an NBA Pre-Season clash, slated for the Chase Center in San Francisco on the morning of Saturday 9 October 2021. Tip-off is at 03:00.
The Warriors had a disappointing season in 2020-21, ending ninth in the Western Conference with a 39-33 record, before being ousted in the Play-Ins (prior to the Playoffs) by the Lakers and the Memphis Grizzlies. Golden State will be looking to Klay Thompson to boost them in the new season following his return from a torn Achilles heel.

"Everyone's excited that Klay is out on the floor," coach Steve Kerr said. "He basically did every single thing in practice. We didn't scrimmage, we didn't have any live contact, but Klay is just so happy to be playing and we're all so happy to see him part of it. So just a really good first day, first couple of days, and good energy as we start to get rolling."
The Lakers also had a shoddy campaign in 2021-22: the reigning NBA champs ended seventh in the Western Conference before defeating the Warriors to advance into the Playoffs, where they were outclassed 4-2 by the Phoenix Suns in the first round.

The arrival of Carmelo Anthony, however, is a major boost, with the 37-year-old ready to play whatever role LA asks of him: “At this point, man, whatever we need to do, let's do it," Anthony explained. "It ain't... 'I can't sit,' and, 'Oh, I want to start,' 'I want to come off the bench.' Whatever it is, it is.”
In head-to-head stats, the Warriors and the Lakers have met in 462 Regular Season and Playoff games since 1948-49, with Los Angeles claiming 281 wins compared to 181 for Golden State. The teams’ last meeting was in March 2021, with the Lakers winning 128-97.
