Matchday 10

Arsenal v Liverpool

Emirates Stadium
London, England
Sunday, 9 October 2022
Kick-off is at 16h30

Arsenal's title credentials will undergo a rigorous test when they welcome Liverpool to the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, October 9.

The Gunners maintained their perch atop the Premier League standings after beating fierce rivals Tottenham 3-1 in the 192nd North London derby last weekend.

Mikel Arteta's side continue to lead Manchester City by a single point after eight games, having won all but one since the season got underway.

Arteta described the derby win as a "beautiful day" and paid tribute to the home fans for creating a fantastic atmosphere inside the stadium which spurred his players on.

"It's a beautiful day. The way we performed, just the experience of living that atmosphere and the connection with our people and actually win it is so meaningful," the Spaniard told the club's official website.

"I'm really happy because we know how much it means for everybody, and just to give a bit of joy and happiness to these people is fulfilling - I think everyone feels that way.

"This is a very different game because there is a lot of emotion for both. It's really meaningful for everybody, and the build-up is very different.

"We know that it's a day in the calendar that is a chance to deliver something to our people and that brings a little bit more responsibility, but I think the players handled it really well."

The Reds fell further behind in the title race after being held to a 3-3 draw by Brighton on Saturday - their second in a row following the goalless stalemate against neighbours Everton prior to the international break.

Jurgen Klopp's team are unbeaten in their last four outings after a four-match winless start to the campaign, but already find themselves 11 points adrift of the league leaders in ninth place.

Klopp acknowledges their lack of consistency is a major area of concern and insists performances won't improve if they don't address that issue first.

"We are under pressure, we don't ignore that. It's not now that we increase it every day but it's there. We want to do better, we want to have more points, we want to be in a different area in the table," the German said.

"We have to improve, that only happens if we perform, we have to perform more consistently. I cannot say what everybody wants to hear now, it's just the reality."
