The
2025 Australian MotoGP is scheduled to take place on Phillip Island, which is named after Arthur Phillip, the first Governor of New South Wales, on 19 October.
What to know about the Australian MotoGP
Established in 1989, the event has been held at various venues, most notably Eastern Creek, west of Sydney, New South Wales, and Bathurst in central western New South Wales.
The race was cancelled in 2020 and 2021, both due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit is contracted to host the Australian MotoGP until 2026.

The Indonesian MotoGP, which was the 18th round of the 2025 MotoGP World Championship calendar, took place on 5 October.
The race was won by Ducati's Fermín Aldeguer, while Pedro Acosta of KTM and Ducati's Alex Marquez finished second and third, respectively.
Standings
Marc Marquez is placed at the top of the 2025 MotoGP riders' standings, having won 11 races in the current campaign and he has been crowned as the 2025 world champion.
His brother, Alex, and Francesco Bagnaia of Ducati are placed second and third, respectively, as the three Ducati riders battle for the MotoGP world championship.
Looking at the constructors' standings, dominant Ducati are placed at the top, having already won the 2025 world title, and they are followed by Aprilia and KTM, respectively.
Favourites
Two of the top-three ranked riders, Alex Marquez and Bagnaia, will all be determined to return to winning ways after failing to win the Indonesian MotoGP.
However, Marc Marquez will miss the 2025 Australian MotoGP and Malaysian MotoGP after undergoing several medical examinations. The newly-crowned champion has been diagnosed with a fracture at the base of the coracoid process and a ligament injury to his right shoulder.
Acosta, Aldeguer and Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi, who are placed fifth, eighth and fourth, respectively, on the 2025 MotoGP riders' standings, will also fancy their chances at this weekend's Australian MotoGP.

“We have to be happy! We made exactly what we planned: a good start and to be 1st or close to 1st in the initial part of the race," Acosta said after the 2025 Indonesian MotoGP.
"We knew it would be hard for us because it was not an option to use the same front tire as the rest. It was tricky to manage this, and the tire pressure also. I think I am becoming a better rider, more mature and making better races.
"We are constant in the top five and on the podium again. We gave our best. I want to thank KTM, my Crew Chief and all my mechanics.”
