Netherlands coach Sarina Wiegman will look to guide her team to Women’s World Cup glory when they take on the United States in the final on Sunday 7 July 2019.

The Oranje booked their place in the championship match for the first time after defeating Sweden 1-0 after extra time in the semifinal. Jackie Groenen scored the decisive goal for the Oranje.

Netherlands have reached their first WWC final

“The potential for the Netherlands has been there for a long time. Since 2007, when the Eredivisie started and players got better facilities and could train more, the players developed so much that they improved,” said Wiegman ahead of the final.

And then when you’re at big tournaments, like European Championships and World Cups, they develop even more. They made transfers to big clubs in Europe.”

The Netherlands’ coach added, “Of course I’m really happy to be in the final. If you want to go into the bigger picture, I think it’s important that women have the opportunity to develop as players, as coaches and in society."
