Sweden will host Spain in a UEFA Group B
2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at the Friends Arena in Stockhom on Thursday evening.
The match will be both teams first since the Euro 2020 tournament in which Sweden reached the round of 16 before losing to Ukraine in extra-time, while Spain were knocked out at the semifinal stage by eventual champions Italy on penalties.
Spain top the group with two wins and a draw from their allotted matches, but Sweden are breathing down
La Roja's neck following successive wins over Georgia and Kosova in their two matches up until this point.
Sweden boasts a lot of exciting talent with the likes of Alexander Isak and Dejan Kulusevski two of Europe's brightest talents.
Spain manager Luis Enrique has rested the likes of Pedri, Dani Olmo and Mikel Oyarzabal for the fixtures against Sweden, Georgia and Kosovo in this international window, but can still name a team full of experience and future stars.
Abel Ruiz, Ferran Torres and Eric Garcia have a big future in the national team while at the other end of the scale, Jordi Alba, Sergio Busquests, Cesar Azpilicueta and Raul Albiol, who will make his international return, are all seasoned campaigners.
“I think it’s important for them to get some rest now,” Luis Enrique said of the players left out. “Eric was called up because he didn’t play much last season, and Unai [Simon] had some time off before Euros.”

Sweden and Spain met as recently as the Euro 2020 tournament in June. Their meeting in Seville ended in a 0-0 draw with the Scandinavians eventually topping a group which also included Slovakia and Poland.
