Aprilia Racing's Jorge Martin will be looking to build on his best performance of the season when he heads to Barcelona for the
Catalan Grand Prix on Sunday, September 7.
The reigning world champion has endured a harrowing first year with the Noale-based manufacturer after hurting his wrist during pre-season testing and suffering a serious injury in the Qatar Grand Prix.
After missing the opening three races, Martin lost control of his bike on lap 14 in Lusail and was struck in the back by VR46 Racing Team's Fabio Di Giannantonio.
The Spaniard sustained multiple rib fractures and a collapsed lung which sidelined him for the next seven races. He returned for the Czech Grand Prix and secured his first finish, a P7.
Martin crashed out of the Austrian Grand Prix on lap 15, but he put on a sterling display of riding in the Hungarian Grand Prix to finish just behind team-mate Marco Bezzecchi in P4 after starting 15th on the grid.
The 27-year-old is hoping the result at Balaton Park will give him a confidence boost on home soil as he goes in search of a fourth consecutive podium in Barcelona.
"I can't wait to get to Barcelona. I have many fond memories from last year. This is a track that I really like, where I have always done well in recent years," Martin said.
"I'm beginning to feel more comfortable on the bike now, and I think that this will be an important race for continuing to build confidence, gain familiarity with the bike, and carry on with our path following the same approach we had in Balaton."
