Valtteri Bottas looks for return to winning form

2019 Formula 1 season, Round 9

Austrian Grand Prix

Red Bull Ring, Spielberg
Sunday 30 June

Valtteri Bottas will look for a return to winning form when Round 9 of the 2019 Formula 1 season, the Austrian Grand Prix, is held at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg on Sunday 30 June.

Bottas had a solid weekend at Paul Ricard for the French Grand Prix, but he still finished a distant second behind Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.

Bottas is 36 points behind Hamilton in the standings.

The result left Bottas a hefty 36 points adrift of Hamilton in the Drivers’ Championship standings and any hope he has of challenging the Brit for the title appear to be fading – unless he can put together a string of victories.

The Finnish driver has claimed two wins this season, though his last came back in April at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in Baku.

The Finnish driver is chasing his first win since the Azerbaijan GP.

The good news for Bottas is that the Red Bull Ring has not traditionally been a happy hunting ground for Lewis Hamilton (who has won just once at the venue), and the Finn himself won the Austrian GP in 2017.

Bottas needs to raise his game and begin reeling in his teammate at the top of the standings if we are to enjoy the drama and tension of a proper title race in 2019.
