Sometimes players fail to make an impression in the English Premier League, but they end up proving their worth elsewhere.
We take a look at
football players, who have thrived after leaving the English top-flight league for other European clubs.
Luis Alberto - Lazio
Serie A matches: 95
Goals: 20
The Spanish playmaker was on the books of English giants Liverpool FC between the 2013 and 2016, and was deemed a flop signing having made only 12 competitive appearances for the team.
However, Alberto has managed to revive his career at current Italian Serie A log leaders SS Lazio and has established himself as one of the top performers in Europe this season.
Alberto boasts the most assists in Italian top-flight league having created 12 goals in the current campaign and has been one of the key players as Lazio push for the league title.
“I didn’t get the taking part in time I wished at Liverpool, then I began properly at Malaga and was having fun with my soccer at Deportivo after I received injured," Alberto said on Onda Cero.
“I made the massive step up at Lazio, an exquisite membership. Joining Lazio was the best decision of my life.
“Nobody really knew me and that was my fault. I was training by myself at Liverpool, but changed mentality with (coach Juan) Campillo and took that next step.”
Memphis Depay - Lyon
Ligue 1 matches: 102
Goals: 43
The Dutch forward had a disappointing stint with former English champions Manchester United between 2015 and 2017 - scoring only seven goals in 53 competitive games.
Depay moved to French giants Olympique Lyonnais (Lyon) in January 2017 and has established himself as one of the best attackers in Ligue 1.
The former PSV Eindhoven player has impressively netted five goals in five appearances in this season's UEFA Champions League which sees Lyon in the Round of 16.

Dusan Tadic - Ajax Amsterdam
Eredivisie matches: 59
Goals: 39
The Serbian playmaker was very inconsistent during his time in the Premier League while on the books of Southampton FC between 2014 and 2018.
Tadic was snapped up by Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam in June 2018 and has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the world.
The 31-year-old played an instrumental role in helping Ajax reach the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League semi-finals, and was nominated for the 2019 Ballon d'Or award.
Angel Di Maria - PSG
Ligue 1 matches: 144
Goals: 47
The Argentine winger failed to live up to expectations at English giants Manchester United where he made 32 competitive appearances and scored four goals, and left the club after only one season.
Di Maria moved to French champions Paris Saint Germain (PSG) in July 2015 and hit the ground running as he set a new Ligue 1 record for assists in a season with 18 in his first campaign.
The former Real Madrid player has since helped PSG clinch three Ligue 1 titles and re-established himself as one of the best wingers in the world at the UEFA Champions League title contenders.

Serge Gnabry - Bayern Munich
Bundesliga matches: 53
Goals: 21
The German winger struggled for game time during his time with English giants Arsenal between 2012 and 2016 - scoring only one goal in 18 competitive appearances.
Gnabry has gone on to become one of the best wingers in the world at German champions Bayern Munich where he has won the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal as a key player.
The Arsenal academy product is also in the race for this season's UEFA Champions League Golden Boot award having netted six goals in the competition.
“I’m happy he is scoring so much in London now and not five years ago, because if that were the case he probably wouldn’t be with us now,” Bayern star Thomas Muller told Sky Sport in Germany.
